Is it my understanding of this dataset or it is not arranged by states? i mean there's no column for states

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

In Stata, enter "lookfor state". This will give you a list of any variables that include "state" in the variable label. Some of what comes up (for example, variables with "statement" in the label) is not relevant, but you will see that the state is identified with the variable shstate.
