Dear Sir/ Dear Madam,
I have already registered a research project regarding children under age 5 who had diarrhea by using Myanmar DHS 2015-2016 data. In the Kid Recode (KR) file, there is one variable for diarrhea, h11. The number of under 5 children in KR stata file (4,596) is a little bit different to the number of children under age 5 (4,099) of table 10.7 in the DHS final report. Could you please see the two attached screenshots and provide me the possible explanation on the way of calculation that leads to 4099 of under 5 children for final report?
With best regards,

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

There are 4596 UNWEIGHTED children in the KR file, and 4286 WEIGHTED children. The numbers in the tables are weighted. The KR file includes children born in the past 5 years who died, as well as those who survived. Those who survived have b5=1, those who died have b5=0 and for them h11 is NA (not applicable, coded with a dot). The weighted number of children who survived (rounded) is 4099. I opened the KR file with Stata and entered this line: "tab h11 b5 [iweight=v005/1000000], m". That gives the following table:

had diarrhea | child is alive
recently | no yes | Total
--------------------+----------------------+----------
no | 0 3,659.032 | 3,659.032
yes, last two weeks | 0 427.372586 |427.372586
don't know | 0 11.425541 | 11.425541
. |187.528802 .83877 |188.367572
--------------------+----------------------+----------
Total |187.528802 4,098.669 | 4,286.198

One of the surviving children has a dot for h11, which I would not expect, but otherwise the coding is ok and all the children are accounted for.
