Hi everyone,

I am researching a policy in India in which only people living below the poverty line are eligible. In the DHS dataset, the wealth index factor score is available but I don't know how to figure out which value corresponds to the poverty line? does anyone have any ideas? I found this one table (attached file) in one of their publications but they do not mention how they got this.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

Can you identify the source of that table? It's possible that the authors found the percentage below the poverty line in these countries from some other source(s) and then calculated the corresponding percentile on the continuous wealth variable (hv271). I don't see how they could have gone in the other direction, using the wealth quintile to calculate the percentage below a poverty line....
