Dear all

I am trying to calculate the number of days spent by the interviewer in a cluster for India 2015-16 data. But little confused about the approach. I have read in a DHS methodological paper that the time spent by the interviewer in a PSU was divided into three parts, so I am also trying to do the same.

Can anyone plz help me as it is related to my PHD topic.

In NFHS-4, each interviewer was assigned a three-digit interviewer number. However, that number was not unique across all states. To get a unique interviewer number, you need to combine the two-digit state code with the three-digit interviewer number. The interviewer might visit a particular respondent up to three times if the respondent is not available on the first visit. The day, month, and year of the final visit is recorded. Also, note that an interviewer often conducts both household interviews and individual interviews, so you would have to check the final visit date for both household and individual interviews for a particular interviewer.

If more than one PSU has the same PSU number, you can try to separate the PSUs by looking at the fieldwork dates. The interviewing teams usually spend 3-4 days in a PSU, and it is highly unlikely that two PSUs with the same PSU numbers would be conducting interviews on the same dates. You can also look at the one-digit variable for Mega-city, large city, large town, small town, and rural to help identify different PSUs.
