• If women who use contraceptives use more than one type of contraceptives can they cross off for more than one type? Or is it "what's your preferred". How it is measured in the analysis?

Following is a response from Senior DHS Specialist, Kerry MacQuarrie:
This information can be found in:
ICF. 2019. Demographic and Health Survey Interviewer's Manual. Rockville, Maryland, U.S.A.: ICF.
On page 78, it indicates that if a woman reports currently using more than one method that both methods are recorded on the questionnaire but that the skip instruction are followed and subsequent detailed data are collected for the highest method on the list. Similarly, in the calendar, the interviewer records the code for the method highest on the list, should the woman report using more than one method. It is this higher-listed method that is recorded in IR datasets.
The order in which contraceptive methods are listed is based on data on their relative effectiveness with the most effective methods listed higher in this list, per peer reviewed research such as:
