Recent multi-country analysis revealed that who a child lives with is a significant predictor of many of the health and developmental outcomes (Idele et al, forthcoming). There is demand for this data from not only the HIV/OVC community but also from a wider child protection community as well as social protection community (where living arrangements are one of the factors used to inform targeting). We understand that the question on "relationship to household" is a standard question in the household questionnaire (Qst 12-15 (survivorship and residence of biological parents)).
We would like to recommend that a table on living arrangements (and also orphanhood in countries where there is sufficient level of percentage) appear in the final reports of all the countries so that this information is readily available for data users (without having to undertake further analysis of the data).
