Older women face domestic violence that goes undetected and unaddressed with existing models that stop collecting data at age 49. Over 20 percent of the world's population of women is over the age of 49. (see ref 1)

Domestic violence against older women is a problem even in places where cultural mores would suggest otherwise. A prevalence study of elder abuse in both older men and women subjects was conducted in The People's Republic of China among community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years and older living in a rural community. The sample found that 6.3 percent of the women over 60 who were interviewed experiencing physical abuse in the previous 12 months. (see ref 2)
