Hello,
I am working with the Bangladesh 2017-18 survey. My question is regarding Figure 13.6 (Awareness of hypertension and treatment status) in the BDHS 2017-18 Final Report.
1) In making those graphs, is being "treated" considered only treatment with medication or is having received advice regarding physical activity, diet, etc. (possible answer choices in question 318 of biomarker questionnaire) also considered as being "treated"?
2) How is "controlled" blood pressure defined if there was not a set of previous BP measurements to identify those that previously had high BP but had now decreased their BP?
Thanks.

Here is a response from DHS Survey Director, Anjushree Pradhan:
1) In the figure 13.6 (Awareness of hypertension and treatment status), the `treated' considers only treatment with medication. That is 318A for woman and 419A for men.
2) The `controlled' blood pressure is determined by the status during data collection whereby the person was told about having hypertension, and currently taking antihypertensive medications, and has normal blood pressure. It does not take into account any previous BP measurements.
