Variables regarding justification of wife beating are available but there is no data available in 2004 Bangladesh DHS. Could you please let me know why this is and how I can get those information?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Please check if the variables of interest, have "NA" (not applicable) after the variable name in the labels. A variable is "not applicable" for a respondent either because the question was not asked in the survey, or because the question was not asked of the respondent due to the flow or skip pattern of the questionnaire. Please take a closer look at the questionnaire for the country you are working with - find the relevant question, and back up to see who answered it. Another place to look would be at the description of the survey, usually in the first chapter of the final report. Also you can look for variables with a title that includes "eligible" or "eligibility". These will help you figure out any subsampling. When there is subsampling, it usually means not everyone was interviewed, for instance: every person in every second or third household. All questionnaires are in the appendix of the final report.

You may also go to IPUMS-DHS to access documentation on each variable, and do a web-based search on a string or a variable. Once you click on the name of a variable, you are presented with a series of tabs. Select the "Universe," tab to get details on who was asked the question. If you select the "Survey Text" tab, you will get the exact wording of the question, with a link to other questions in that section of the questionnaire.
