Hi, I'm a relatively new DHS program user and currently working on the 2014 Bangladesh DHS and SPA datasets.
I would like to determine the poverty level for each division through multi-dimensional index. Yet, I'm struggling to find the variables that would be an indication for 'schooling', where no household member has completed five years of schooling and 'attendance', where any school-aged child in the household is not attending school up to class 8.

I would greatly appreciate the help!

Thanks!

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

DHS files include the DHS wealth index. It may meet your needs. The example you give for schooling would only take the values 0 and 1 for a household. It would be undefined if there are no children of school age in the household, and its value would depend very much on the number and ages of any school age children. It is not a very robust indicator of education, let alone of poverty. But if you wanted to calculate it you would use the PR file and the "egen total" command (in Stata) using a binary variable coded for each child based on their age and school attendance.
