Q424-429 is the series used in malaria endemic countries to collect data on IPTp. These questions were developed over 10 years ago when IPTp was not in wide use (I know because I was on the team that developed them!). Now that IPTp programs are more widespread, we had a number of suggestions for updating this series:

Q424: Could we just ask specifically about IPTp (instead of the way it is currently worded). In most countries this program is pretty well-known...
Q425: SP is the ONLY drug used in malaria prevention in pregnancy. CQ is not used anymore (though it was when this questionnaire was developed). We suggest deleting this question and merging it with Q424 because answering 'yes' to IPTp would only mean SP. OR...if this question is kept separate what would be the ethical implications of asking about cotrimoxazole prophylaxis (which is used instead of IPTp in HIV positive women). We currently have no data on this aspect of ANC programming.
Q426: This skip pattern would not be necessary if the above were reduced to one question.
Q428/429: Currently WHO only recommends IPTp in an ANC setting however, some countries are starting to experiment with community-based distribution and we anticipate these efforts will expand over the next 5 years. Thus, it would no longer be useful to ask about whether IPTp was obtained in ANC. Especially if the earlier question gets at IPTp specifically, then we would not need this clarification and could delete these questions. These are again a holdover from 10 years ago. HOwever, if the question on 'where' is maintained, it might be useful to have a community component if a country has adopted that approach.
