In the pdf document for "Congo Democratic Republic DHS, 2007 - Final Report (French)" (https://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/FR208/FR208.pdf), it is written that the RDC has around 40 ethnic groups, mainly the "bantous", the "nilotiques", the "soudanais" and the "pygmés".

From the individual recode we have:

. lab list v131
1 bakongo north and south
2 bas-kasai and kwilu-kwngo
3 cuvette central
4 ubangi and itimbiri
5 uele lake albert
6 basele-k , man. and kivu
7 kasai, katanga, tanganika
8 lunda
9 pygmy
96 others

So this is strange as most of what it is labeled as an "ethnicity" seems to be a region..
Any reason why?

The categories in V131 are based on the categories for ethnicity that were used in the survey questionnaires: Question 120 (women) and Question 130 (men).
