Dear DHS team and users

I need your help to translate the numeric value of Variable Region V101/V024 (I used Indonesia 2012 KR dataset). I already read the Recode and the manual. The recode mentioned it is categorical: 1 Region 1, 2 Region 2, 3 Region 3, 4, Region 4. However the value has number from 11 till 82. Please help me to read this region variable, I really need it to my data analysis. any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Best
Putri

Hi Putri, can you clarify what you're trying to do with the region variable? Are you trying to figure out whether they correspond to specific provinces in Indonesia? What statistical package are you using, because the Stata dataset ships with the labels for these variables. By the way, they correspond to the BPS codes for the provinces, if you're familiar with the way BPS codes administrative regions for its statistical products. The FRQ and FRW files that come zipped with your dataset also tell you the label that each of the codes correspond to if you are using a data format without labels.

We now have repositories of code written in Stata and SPSS available on Github. Please reference these code repositories as a resource for code for matching or calculating DHS indicators. The code repositories can be found at:
