Hi everyone,

We want to mapping the health information of babies mortality by 100km*100km grid based on DHS GPS data

Because of the spatial displacement is 0-2km or 0-5km and 0-10km, so if we select the 100km as spatial resolution, do you think it can reflect the actual information of children health conditions? or should we carry out other method to grid the data?

Thank you very much

Hi-
I would suggest performing literature search to see how other groups have created gridded surfaces with the GPS DHS data.
You can start by looking at the list of articles that the DHS maintains, here is a link to those articles: http://measuredhs.com/publications/article-results.cfm?T_id= 153&tnm=GPS

That list is not exhaustive and a further literature search may identify other articles using various methods to create gridded surfaces.

Additionally, I would suggest reading more about the displacement procedure and methods in a recently published report from the DHS.
Geographic Displacement Procedure and Georeferenced Data Release Policy for the Demographic and Health Surveys
http://measuredhs.com/publications/publication-SAR7-Spatial- Analysis-Reports.cfm

In general, I would say that 100KM is too large of a grid square to reflect the actual information of children health conditions and to be of any reasrch or programmatic use.

Best wishes,
Clara
