Hello,

I am using most Senegal DHS datasets to look at trends over time and I cannot match up the different methods to each "knowledge of method" variable (v304_01 to v304_20). There are between 13 and 16 methods listed in the questionnaires, but 15 or 20 variables depending on the survey year. In addition, certain variables are blank (e.g. all records have value "not in contraception") and the trends from one survey to the next do not seem coherent when using the questionnaire numbering.

It would be great if you could let me know which variable refers to which method for the following DHS Senegal surveys: 1986, 1992-93, 1997, 2005, 2010-11, 2012-13 and 2014. Perhaps it would be useful to label these variables in future DHS datasets?

Many thanks for your help,
Francesca

I have since been informed by a colleague that the corresponding contraceptive methods can be found in the DHS recode manuals for each survey round ( http://dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsg4-dhs-que stionnaires-and-manuals.cfm), in case it is helpful to someone else.
