Dear DHS Team,

I hope to replicate the U5MR (Under 5 Mortality Rate) of 2013 Nigeria DHS, using 'Child Recode' data and Stata.

Following guidelines (e.g. "Guide to DHS Statistics, Oct 2012"), I've got some figures.

However, the issue is I only get the very similar rate (127.5) with the U5MR of Nigeria, 128 (2013 Nigeria DHS Final Paper: 119), when I do not apply the weight. When I apply the weight, the rate goes up 157. Shouldn't I use the weight for the U5MR or am I doing something wrong? I have tried to resolve this issue for several months, and finally am posting this here.

FYI, I attached my do file and excel sheet for calculating the U5MR.

It would be very grateful if you can provide me your advice for this issue, or a module / 'do file' to replicate the U5MR.

Thank you in advance.

Bin
