Hi, I was wondering if the DHS carries any information on bride price for Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya as I am unable to find questions of that sort in their questionnaires (may be due to oversight). As some studies like Anderson (2007) mention about bride price information, especially for Uganda from the DHS, it would be of great help if I am directed to the designated part of the survey.

thanks,
b

Dear User,
It would be useful to know specifically, which survey and years you are looking at. If you have already looked at the questionnaires in the back of the final reports and found no questions on this subject, then the question(s) were not asked. If you did find question(s) on this subject, they would be recoded as country-specific variables and would start with the letter 'S'. If you give me the survey and year of one of the surveys you are looking at, I can take a closer look. I did look at the Uganda DHS 2011 survey and found no questions on the subject. If you have additional questions, please feel free to post again. Thank you!

Based on the 117 DHS surveys the IPUMS-DHS project has processed so far, the only DHS survey that I know contains information about bridewealth is Ghana 2014.
See, for example, https://www.idhsdata.org/idhs-action/variables/BWSTATUS#code s_section and
https://www.idhsdata.org/idhs-action/variables/BRIDEWYN#code s_section
There are also follow up questions on why the bridewealth was not negotiated.
