Hello everyone,
I'm working on a small mixed-methods project on how young women talk about contraception and antenatal care online, and I'd like to compare that qualitative material with DHS indicators for the same countries (unmet need for family planning, ANC4+ coverage, media exposure variables like V157-V159).
For the qualitative side I'm collecting public comments under health-education videos on TikTok and YouTube. I export them to CSV with https://commentviewer.net/ (it lists every public comment and reply for a video link), then code them by theme.
Two questions for people who have done something similar:
1. Is there a recommended way to cite or describe the DHS media-exposure variables when the comparison group is social media users rather than radio/TV/newspaper audiences? The newer surveys have internet-use questions, but coverage across phases seems uneven.
2. When matching at the subnational level, would you use the region variable (V024) as-is, or is it better to rely on the spatial data repository boundaries to keep regions consistent across survey rounds?
Any pointers to papers that combined DHS data with social media text would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Yummy
