Hello!

I was wondering whether i could use the varibale V233 in the birth recode to track preterm births? Say i consider preterm birth if V233=7 0r 8

Thanks

This is a great question! I'm not intimately familiar with the birth recode, but looking at the variable V233 definition is crucial. You'll want to be sure that categories 7 and 8 definitively represent preterm births according to the coding scheme. It's possible those codes represent something related but not quite exactly preterm. It might be worth plotting the distribution of birthweights against V233 to visualize the slope of the correlation and confirm your assumption holds true across the dataset.
