The IR file of the 2015 Tanzania DHS includes hw70_1 through hw70_6, which are the height-for-age z scores for the woman's children under 5. Similarly for HW71 and Hw72, which are the weight-for-age and weight-for-height scores. How do I recode say the range of hw70_1 through hw70_6, to get a single indicator for height-for-age z scores? The same applies to HW71 and HW72 indicatos. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The IR file has women as units. There are separate values of these variables for up to 6 children born in the past 5 years. The children are numbered 1, 2, etc., with 1 for the most recent birth, etc. You should use the KR file, which has one record for each child.
