If a country or funding agent want to request a question to be included in the DHS, what process do they need to follow? For example a program would want to assess the uptake of a new intervention e.g. subcutaneous self injection for DPMA.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The core DHS questionnaire is revised in intervals of approximately five years, in a very open process in which modifications or new questions can be proposed. The last review was in 2019. Because of the covid disruption, the next one may be later than 2024. The question you suggest is probably too narrow for the core questionnaire, but almost every survey includes survey-specific questions that are added by the implementing agency and in-country constituencies such as the ministry of health. If a survey in your country of interest is coming up, you can try to stimulate interest in adding a question or group of questions.

A household survey is not an efficient mechanism for getting information about new interventions, which by definition have very low prevalence. For what you describe, other kinds of data could be preferable.
