i am chitra, a researcher from India.
i am using IR file from the NFHS 5 dataset of India. i want to calculate parity progression rate and for that i need number of women at given parity and mean age of women at ith parity but in the data mean age is not given how can i calculate mean age of a women at parity at parity i .

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The current parity of a woman is v201 and her age is v012. You can easily calculate the mean of v012 for each value of v201. Let us know if you are looking for something else.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Open the IR file; then enter "tab v201 [fweight=v005], summarize(v012) means noobs".

To get age on a continuous scale, I would add 0.5 to each of these means.

If you want the average age at which a woman had her k'th child (k=1, 2, ... v201), that's something else.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

This is a set of complex indicators that would be calculated from b3 (cmc of births) in the birth histories and v011 (the woman's cmc of birth). You would have to take into account that some or many women have not (yet) had a k'th birth. We do not include these mean ages in the reports and we do not have code to calculate them. I'm sorry but we cannot help.
