Hi there, I have a questions about the BPS code used in the DHS of the province, district, and subdistrict variable. I assume that the area code is based on BPS code system since it is a survey conducted by BPS. Can any of you confirm that?
Another project I have been working on, but used another dataset. In that dataset, it shows that the Indonesia BPS codes change overtime because the subdistrict merge, reshape, and split overtime within Indonesia. The other dataset provided an crosswalk for their area code/BPS code across all waves. I am wondering if you have any crosswalk associated with the BPS code across all DHS datasets? It will help me correctly cluster my samples overtime at the correct municipality level.
Thanks a lot,

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:
We (the DHS staff) are not able to answer your question. We have never had access to the census data for the sampling frame for the Indonesia surveys. We always receive the sample file from the implementing agency. The sample file usually has very little coding of the sample units. For example, the 2017 sample file had no codes at all for all the entities. We therefore have no knowledge of the consistency of the coding system across DHS surveys in Indonesia.
