I appreciate if you could answer my following 3 questions;

1. Which variable is for the districts (not provinces) in HR and PR files?

2. Which variable is for maternal BMI for HR and PR files?

3. Which variable is for maternal education for HR and PR files? If it is HA 66, what are the differences among HA 66_1, HA 66_2, HA_66_3, etc?

Thank you.
Best,
Mari

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

I recommend that you not use the PR file. The subscripts "_1", etc. in the HR file refer to specific household members. In the PR file, there is a separate line for each household member.

If you open the PR file in Stata, and then type "lookfor district" you will see that "shdist" is the district code. In the PR file, "hc73" is the BMI for children, "ha40" is the BMI for women and "hb40" is the BMI for me. These variables have slightly different names when they appear in the other files. The BMI for children in the KR file is hw73. The BMI for women in the IR and KR files is v445. The BMI for men in the MR file is mv445.

Thank you so much for your reply.

How about the following question?

3. Which variable is for maternal education for HR and PR files? If it is HA 66, what are the differences among HA 66_1, HA 66_2, HA_66_3, etc?

In the HR file, the subscripted variables refer to different mothers in the same household. You should use the PR file, not the HR file. The PR file has one record for each member of the household and is much easier for analysis. For a specific child in the PR file, the mother's education will be ha66 without a subscript.
