Dear readers,

For my research I need to find out how many eligible women per household were interviewed, and how many were not due to work or education. Variable v015 should indicate whether this person has been interviewed or wasn't at home at the time. Surprisingly, all of my over 180,000 subjects were home at the time and interviewed as well. Also if I consider variable hv010 (number of eligible women in hh), it seems that for every single household, all of the eligible women were interviewed. I find that a bit hard to believe. But I also cannot find the opposite.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can calculate the percentage of eligible women in the households who were interviewed?

Thank you so much.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

To find the nonresponse rate for women in a specific survey, first reduce the PR file to eligible women (cases with hv117=1) and then merge with the IR file. Nonresponse cases are women who are in the reduced PR file and NOT in the IR file. The response rate given in DHS reports is the percentage of women with hv117=1 who ARE in the IR file.
