Hello,

is there a way to merge both men and women, thus every couple, in the CR-file to the corresponding household in the PR-file? Since the only common identifiers with the PR-file can be v001 v002 v003 v024, for women, and mv001 mv002 mv003 mv024, for for men, I managed to merge only women or only men to the PR-file. I want to merge these files to basically only have information about household structure - shstruc from PR - without having to construct an indicator for it in the couple file.

I consulted all the available DHS technical guides and most of this forum to solve this, but I still did not find a solution.

Thank you and best regards.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

If you want to merge household-level data with the CR file, then you do not need to use hvidx. From the household file, the identifier would be hv001 hv002 hv024 and from the CR file you would match that with EITHER v001 v002 v024 OR mv001 mv002 mv024. (In the CR file v001=mv001, v002=mv002, and v024=mv024.) For the household file, use either the HR version or the PR version. It would probably be easier to construct the household structure variables with the PR file and collapse it to one record per household.
