Hello,

I am having a little problem obtaining the estimated total population and prevalence of female circumcision in women and girls for the Nigeria DHS 2018 report -Tables 18.2 & 18.6.

Thanks

Hello Glory,

To estimate female circumcision for women age 15-49 you can use the following code

*Table 18.2
use NGIR7AFL.DTA, clear
gen fcircum = g102==1 if g100!=.
gen wt=v005/1000000
*this matches Table 18.2
tab fcircum [iw=wt]

However, estimating female circumcision in girls 0-14 can be a little more complicated. For this you would need to identify the daughters of the women in the IR file and merge this with the girls in the BR file. The attached program prepared by Thomas Pullum provides the steps to do this. Please refer to the Guide to DHS Statistics for more explanation ( https://www.dhsprogram.com/Data/Guide-to-DHS-Statistics/inde x.htm#t=Prevalence_of_Circumcision_Girls_0-14.htm).

Thank you.

Best,
