Dear Users,

My research is investigating "Gender differences in the impact of intimate partner violence on early childhood development (ECD) in Uganda, 2006-2016". The key independent variable ECD will be computed as a composite variable.

The question is that the variables to measure ECD are available in the UDHS 2016 survey dataset specifically in the Individual recode (UGIR7BFL.dta) file. The ECD vars below seem not to be available in the 2006 and 2011 DHS datasets;

For Literacy-numeracy
1. Can identify at least ten letters (sec11)
2. Can read four words (sec12)
3. Knows numbers 1 to 10 (sec13)

For Physical development
4. Pick up small object from ground (sec14)
5. Sometimes too sick to play (sec15)

For Learning/cognition development
6. Follows simple directions (sec16)
7. Able to do something independently (sec17)

For Socioemotional Development
8. Gets along with other children (sec18)
9. Kicks, bites, hits other children (sec19)
10. Is easily distracted (reverse coded) (sec20)

Thanks in advance

Dear User, you are correct. Early Childhood Development (ECD) data was not collected in the Uganda DHS 2011 or the Uganda DHS 2006. Thank you!
