Hi all,
I'm conducting a secondary analysis of the UDHS 2000/2001-2016 data for my thesis. I'd like to calculate the probabilities of selection of enumeration areas and households for my complex samples design. I'm looking for region-specific sampling data for the 2000-2001 UDHS showing the total enumeration areas by region, and the number sampled in each region. I'm also looking for the breakdown of the total number of households by region (the breakdown of households sampled is available in the report). The sample write-up states that the 1991 Uganda population and housing census frame was used to select enumeration areas (and households), but I've not been successful in finding this document. This information has been provided in subsequent DHS reports in Appendix A. Your help will be of great help!

Thanks

Francis

Dear User, I believe pages 206 and 207 in the final report for the Uganda DHS 2000-01 final report answers the 1st part of your question. Table A.1 Sample implementation: women and Table A.2 Sample implementation: men. The 2000-01 final report for Uganda can be found here:
You can find out more information about the Uganda 1991 Census at this link. This is also part of the website for the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) the implementing agency for the Uganda DHS surveys on our website.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I've looked at these resources--yes, the report does answer my question partly. The break down of the sample of households for the women and men samples is indicated in the pages you reference, but there is no breakdown of the total number of households in each region from which the sample was selected. Also, while the overall number of enumeration areas in the sample was reported, the regional break down of the sample and the total number of EAs in each region was not included in the report. I followed the link you shared to the UBOS website, but while it provides a description of the 1991 census, there is no data on the distribution of EAs. I assume these data is contained in the sampling frame for the 2000/1 UDHS. I'd still appreciate further help on this issue.

Dear User, Due to confidentiality issues a further breakdown is not possible. You may want to contact the implementing agency regarding data access for the 1991 census data. Thank you!

Thanks for the response. Considering that this information is available in the subsequent UDHS reports and that the information I'm looking for does not contain any identifying information about the participants or the exact sites selected, is it possible to reconsider?

Will do. I've also tried to get this information from UBOS but have not yet been successful.
