Dear DHS experts,

I am trying to replicate some published results using DHS Ethiopia 2000 and 2005. The sample for children is restricted to children who were born in the current region, and the sample of households is restricted to those who lived in their current place of residence during 1997-2000. However, I do not find variables in the datasets which could help me learn about the regions the kids were born, or the regions the household used to live. I am wonderingif I overlooked something in the data?

Thanks for any help!

Best,
Ming

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

No, you are not missing anything. Some DHS surveys have a question about type of place of previous residence, such as urban/rural, but they do not identify a specific place or region.
