Dear All,

I am using Nepal DHS 2006 dataset. I would like to identify the migrants and then merge it with the PR file. Eventually, my goal is to identify individuals whose spouses have migrated. The unit of analysis is individual (not household).

I did the following:

1. Using the HR file I reshaped the data in long format and created variables related to in and out migration along with hvidx (hvidx_*) and migrant line number (sh25_* ).

2. I sorted it: hv001 hv002 hvdix

3. I merged it 1:1 with the PR file (which of course is sorted like #2).

It merged but I got very strange results. For instance, in the merged dataset, hv001 hv002 hvidx [101 3 1] individual is male and 72 years old. But in the HR file (after reshape or before it), it shows male but lower year of age. Apparently, these two individuals appear different if my reshape and merge are correct. Is it?

Can anyone help/suggest me how to successfully identify the migrants and then merge it with PR file?

Thank you!
