Hi, I am new in using DHS dataset. Actually, I am doing a trend analysis in stunting using four dataset of Nepal. What I am confused is, I could see there are number of variables representing same variable like HC4$1 HC4$2 HC4$3 HC4$4 .... for height for age percentile. similarly, there are six variable for "height of children taken lying or standing" HC15$1 HC15$2 to HC15$6 in NDHS 2011. Both are not multiple response. In this case, how to identify which one to use for analysis.

When I checked data manual, it only explains about the meaning of variable but does not give information on subset of variable. Please help me sort out my confusion.

Thank you
Sajama

Dear User,
If you look at the questionnaire for Nepal DHS 2011 (located in the back of the final report http:// www.dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-FR257-DHS-Final- Reports.cfm), you will see that there is more than one child being measured. The $ and number after the dollar sign refers to the nth child being measured. Screen shot attached.
