Hi all,

For my thesis I am trying to run an ordered probit instrumental variable regression. In this regression, I'm (amongst others) using the variables Wealth Index (V190), current marital status (V501) and literacy (v155) from the Ethiopia Individual Recode 2016 (VII).
I am trying to interpret these variables and I do not really know how.
V190 is ordered from 1 to 5, but does 1 mean not wealthy and 5 very wealthy or the other way around? In the Recode Manual this is not specified.
Also, V155 literacy is ordered from 0 to 4, but I don't know where the 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 stand for. I want to transform this variable into a dummy (0 for not literate, 1 for literate) but I can't do it if I don't know what the numbers stand for. This is not specified in the Recode Manual as well.
The same holds for V501 current marital status. This one is numbered from 0 to 5 and I'd like to transform this into a dummy (1 for married, 0 for not married) but I can't do this the right way if I don't know what 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mean. This is not specified in the Recode Manual as well.

I hope someone can help me out with this, thank you in advance!

Best, Nori
