Hi,
I have recently calculated BMI of Bangladeshi women with Asian cut-off [23·5 kg/m2 increased risk; and 27·5 kg/m2 or higher high risk.]
But, my supervisor told me to calculate those BMI with WHO cut-off (International) i.e., 25 kg/m2 or higher as overweight.
Now, Can anybody help me by answering that, "Why international but not Asian cut-off have to be used to calculate BMI of Bangladeshi women?"?
In the report of BDHS 2014, I think, to calculate BMI, both WHO and Asian cut-off were used and displayed .

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:
So far as DHS is concerned, you could use either standard, or both. If you want to make global comparisons, it would seem appropriate to use the WHO standard, but if you are only making comparisons among Asian countries, or within Bangladesh, you could use the Asian standard. This is not a technical question for DHS staff to answer and I hope other users will offer suggestions.
