Hi,
In DHS survey, I've noticed one variable named 'hidx/hvidx', which literally expressed as 'Line number of the household member'.
But can anybody explain this in broad?
I mean, what does it mean when 'hidx/hvidx = 1' ?
Thank you in Advance

Another way to check the meaning of a variable is to use the Search function on the IPUMS-DHS website (at www.idhsdata.org)
Based on the search that I just did, HVIDX is "line number of person in the household" in the household member (PR) file. An alternative name for this variable in IPUMS-DHS is HHLINENO.
https://www.idhsdata.org/idhs-action/variables/HHLINENO#desc ription_section
HIDX appears in IPUMS-DHS as the variable for "Health history index to birth history" when children are the unit of analysis (KR file).
https://www.idhsdata.org/idhs-action/variables/HIDX#descript ion_section
Normally the household head occupies line number 1 in the household listing, so it seems unlikely that the two variables (HVIDX and HIDX) would have a value of 1 referring to the same person. The DHS variable for the line number of the woman respondent, specified in the IR file, is V003 (also called LINENO in IPUMS-DHS).
