Hi.
I am very new to DHS data sets and have no idea where to start.
My research topic is "Does women empowerment affect the nutritional status of children?" I have made a list of variables that I want, but am clueless about how do I start. I assume I'll have to use IR file for women empowerment because women will be the unit of analysis there, and KR file for children nutritional status since children will be the unit of analysis. Similarly, I'll also have to control for household characteristics in my regression, for that I'll need to merge it with HR file. A little starting guidance will be highly appreciated by this freshie.

Following is a response from DHS Senior Research Associate, Wenjuan Wang:

The unit of analysis for your research is children under five. You may not need to merge the KR and IR files since a lot of women's variables and household variables are already included in the KR file. But you can check. If you'd like to merge the files, here is some guidance on how to merge DHS datasets: https://www.dhsprogram.com/data/Merging-Datasets.cfm.
DHS Fellows from Kenya studied a similar topic. I attached here their working paper in case it is helpful: https://www.dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-wp126-wo rking-papers.cfm

Thanks a ton, Wenjuan.
In meantime, I was able to figure out that I will not be needing to merge any files and my entire analysis will be on KR file.
Actually, I have seen these videos and I also have all the data with me and I have made some attempts to use it in Stata. But I am just so confused about where to start. I would highly acknowledge if I get a sample .do file, no matter what topic, but for my idea. And thanks again for the working paper. It is a great resource since journal articles are not that elaborate.

Attached is an example do file that we used for the DHS Fellows. It demonstrates step-by-step how to open a Stata do file, recode variables, and run a basic regression model. You will see many comments explaining the steps

How do I view the data of questionnnaires in stata? Does every question number indicates the data under that code in stata?
I'm confused.
