I have noted that variable v705 in the Kenya 2003 DHS does not have a category for women with husbands who were not employed [shown below]. I am wondering if this could be an error in coding. I will greatly appreciate advice on this variable, if it has an error or not.

I have just noted similar coding for KDHS1993, variable v717 for female occupation and would appreciate advice on this dataset as well. These variables are very important for my thesis.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

If you go to the report on this survey (https://www.dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/FR151/FR151.pdf), Q706 on page 336, you will see that there is no category for "not working". The category labels do not have anything for "not working". I would agree that this is a defect in the questionnaire and the coding. You will also see that 75 cases are coded "99", and this is distinct from "don't know". I would assume that these are the "not working" cases. However, there is no way to know this for sure.
