Hi everyone,

I'm working with the DHS 1987 data from Mexico. In the final report, there's a chart related to birth weights. In the data files, I can't find any variable that looks like birth weight (and it's noted that there's no height/weight data at all for the child recode file). The report doesn't cite another dataset as the source for the chart. Is there no birth weight data in the 1987 DHS for Mexico? If not, does anyone know where they may have gotten this information for the final report document?

Thanks so much!

Dear User,
I have passed your query to one of our experts. I did notice that Q3.05 does ask if the child was weighed when the child was born. There is a line for text indicating that the weight should have been entered there. In current surveys that type of response would be called an OTHER response. Since this is an older survey, I am not sure where that information was kept, so I am trying to find out for you. I also did not see any survey specific variables. It's possible this information is not available, but I will try to find out if it exists. Thanks!

Dear User, I am sorry, we have not been able to find any additional information. You might want to try the implementing organization. I looked it up on-line and found only this link: http:// www.worldcat.org/identities/nc-mexico%20secretaria%20de%20sa lud%20direccion%20general%20de%20planificacion%20familiar/
