Hello all,

I have a quick question about a variable related to treatment of diabetes. The original variable is sh329a: advice/treatment received: prescribed medication

Does this refer to oral diabetes medication only, or if it includes both oral meds and insulin?

Thanks!

The first thing you could do would be to check the questionnaire in the back of the survey report (https://www.dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/FR298/FR298.pdf). If that isn't sufficient, let me know, and we can look at the interviewer manual for that survey.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I am not able to find it in the questionnaire - that variable does not seem to be listed. If we could please look at the interviewer manual for that survey, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I have looked at the main interviewer manual and at the biomarker training manual for that survey. There are no prompts or additional clarifications regarding the type of medication for diabetes. You will have to interpret the responses in the context of whatever "prescribed medication" would have been available in Lesotho in 2013.
