Hello,

I aim to use the 2011DHS for Uganda and use the survey design function in STATA (svy). For that, I need the information about the primary sampling unit (v021) as well as sample strata (usually in DHS v022). For this survey however, the v022 variable is empty.

Could you advise why that is the case and what I should do to obtain information about the sample strata for sampling errors?

Yes, that is a mistake. The strata are urban and rural areas in each of the regions. Use

egen strata = group(v024 v025)

to create the strata variable.

Hello, I have the same question. You suggest egen strata = group(v024 v025). However, this leads to 19 strata. The final report states their should be 34 sampling strata, and makes reference to island and non-island sub-regions.

The 2016 UDHS sample is stratified and was selected in two stages. Three regions (South Central, North Central, and Busoga) were stratified into island and non-island sub-regions. Each region/sub-region was stratified into urban and rural areas, yielding 34 sampling strata.

Thoughts?
