Unable to open datasets in STATA files after unzipping files [message #3868]

Hello,

I am a first time user of the measure DHS datasets working with the Nigeria DHS 2013. I watched the videos on how to download and open the data sets in STATA. I downloaded the folders,unzipped them, and clicked extract all - but the files inside are not being recognized and Windows is asking what program I want to use to open them.

I was logged in when I did the download, and I have STATA version 13.1 on my computer.

I would appreciate any advice on what to do to get these files to open smoothly.

Here is a response from Cameron Taylor:

Thank you for your question, hard to answer without looking at your computer. However, here are some initial questions to help troubleshoot. Are you files showing up as .DTA files? Have you tried opening the files directly from Stata instead of through the download folder? Is this issue only happening with Nigeria DHS files or are you able to open other Stata files correctly? Hopefully this will help guide us in answering your question. Let us know if your issue is resolved.

It finally worked when I tried opened it from within STATA instead of clicking directly on the download folder.
