Hello everyone!
I am currently analyzing the MIS datasets from 2010, 2015, and 2021. I see within the sstate variable that the codes are corresponding to the 37 states. However, I am unable to find in the documentation what each code refers to. Is there a list I can access somewhere?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
I just looked at the three files, which have names NGIR61, NGIR71, and NGIR81, respectively.
In the 2010 MIS, the name of the label for sstate is sstate. You can get the codes for the states in Stata by entering "label list sstate".
In the 2015 MIS, the name of the label for sstate is SSTATE. You would enter "label list SSTATE".
In the 2021 MIS, there is NOT a variable called sstate. Instead, the states are given by v024, which has label V024. You would enter "label list V024".
I will give below the codes and states in the 2021 survey. They are exactly the same in the 2010 and 2015 surveys, except that the codes are multiplied by 10. For example, in the earlier surveys, the code for Sokoto is 10 rather than 1.
