DHS data with geographic shape files [message #29687] Mon, 22 July 2024 05:53 Go to next message

I want to incorporate spatial analysis into my project by linking DHS data to geographic shapefiles. Can anyone share tips on the optimal workflow for merging these data sources and accounting for survey cluster sampling in spatial analysis?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
What survey are you using? Do you already have the shape files? Are you using files other than those distributed by DHS? The household-level or individual-level DHS data can be linked to the DHS GE and GC files by matching the cluster ID codes (hv001 or v001 and DHSCLUST). The cluster design only affects the standard errors of household-level or individual-level estimates and will only be relevant if you are making such estimates.
