Thank you for submitting your question. Could you please provide some more detailed information so we can better advise you?

Can you let us know:

• Which survey you are using (Include country name and year)?
• Which data files you are referring to?
• Which software you are using (Stata, SPSS, R, etc.)?

If you are trying to match a Table in a final report, please also indicate which table and which estimate you are trying to match.

I am interested in analyzing neonatal, infant, and under-five mortality rates for Malawi using data from three consecutive surveys. I plan to perform a trend analysis on these rates using Stata 18 and a Cox or Poisson regression. I would appreciate assistance from anyone who has experience with such analyses and can provide a Stata Do-file as a template.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
The IMR and U5MR are compound rates and are not easily analyzed with an individual-level model. Neonatal mortality is best-suited for what you want to do. You can find more about the construction of the rates in the Guide to DHS Statistics or on our GitHub site https:// github.com/DHSProgram/DHS-Indicators-Stata/tree/master/Chap0 8_CM. Other users may have more suggestions.
