Hi,

I am facing a question regarding the mv133 variable in the MR file. The description of the variable is: "total number of years of education". I wanted to confirm the interpretation of this variable. For example, if a person completes 8 years of education, the variable should measure 8. However, what about if the person completes 5 years of education but repeated the fourth grade 3 times. Would the number of years of education in this case be 5 or 8(8 because the total number of education years is 5+3 including the years in which the grade was repeated). Thank you

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Years of education is interpreted to be synonymous with grade, so in your example the response should be 5, not 8.
