Hi,
I can see that literacy information was collected in the Turkey 2013 DHS, as shown in Table 3.3 on page 47 here: https://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/FR352/FR352.pdf
I imagine this is not collected for people with secondary schooling, so I anticipated some missing values, but when I open TRIR62FL.DTA, I see only missing observations for v155, the variable upon which this is usually based.
There are 9746 observations, as in the table in the report, but all of them have v155 missing in the Stata dataset. Is there a reason for this? Many other variables (for example, v106, highest educational level) are not missing at all. Other countries I have looked at (Ghana for example) do not have this problem. I am not sure what the source of the problem is, or what countries it affects. Does anyone know why this particular variable is missing?
Thank you,

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:
You are correct, this survey does not include v155. However, there is a question about reading a newspaper, which appears as s114. If you enter "tab v106 s114,m", and look at the row for "no education", you will see how the columns of table 3.3 were constructed. I found s114 by opening the IR file and entering "lookfor read".
