Human Rights Watch is an independent, international organization that investigates human rights abuses and conducts advocacy. We often rely on the extensive data available through DHS studies in our work on health, disability, children and women's rights. Our suggested revisions (attached) to the DHS questionnaires are based on our experience in numerous countries throughout the world and focus especially on topics related to violence against women.
In the attached document you will find the following recommendations related to the following:
1. DHS Questionnaire: Household, Men's, Women's
Recommendation #1: Questions related to security risks related to water/sanitation
Recommendation #2: Question about consent to sexual intercourse in marriage/partnership
2. DHS Special Topic Questionnaires: Domestic Violence
Recommendation #1: Revise the title of the questionnaire
Recommendation #2: Questions related to forced marital sex
Recommendation #3: Pregnancy after sex without consent
3. DHS Special Topic Questionnaires: Fistula
