Have you checked the FRQ or MAP file that come with the datasets (you can open them in Notepad or some other text editor software)? These files will tell you whether there were observations with valid values for these variables. If they were not collected, there should be a prefix or suffix of "N/A" or some variant of it in the variable label. Another thing to check is make sure you are looking at the correct dataset. The pregnancy-related variable may have been stored in the birth recode dataset instead of the individual recode file.
