Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
The standard variables in all PR files are hv104 for sex and hv105 for age. In the BD 2017-18 survey, sh18-sh20 are NOT sex, they are 0/1 variables for whether cases were selected for subsampling.
In the BD 2022 PR file, the selection variable is shbpbg. The following lines, for example, will give the number of men and women, by urban/rural residence, selected for blood pressure and blood glucose. These are the denominator frequencies in table 14.1.
