Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The easiest way to find these variables is to open the KR file (for example, CMKR81FL.dta) in Stata and enter "describe m*" . The ANC variables usually begin with the prefix "m". You can find them in the IR file as well, but with subscripts _1, _2, etc., for the child's value of bidx (bidx=1 for the most recent birth, etc.). You could also find them with keywords such as "lookfor tetanus" or "lookfor visits".

I see that the tetanus variables are "NA" in the latest Cameroon survey (I did not check Chad). That means "Not Applicable"; the questions were dropped from the survey, but the variables are included with only a code of "." in the data files. The decision to omit tetanus and some of the other usual questions would have been made by the country staff, not by DHS staff.
